Research and Planning: Double Page Spread Story

In June 2009 OMT performing in basements, backstreet boozers and living out of the back of his car. But today he's an award winning artist, performing at the biggest events of the year, selling out tours and has a number one album. Yes OMT has come far in these last few years. We asked his fans to send in questions and gave them the chance to find out the things that they really want to know. We caught up with him in London where he faced your questions.

What would you say has been your best moment so far?
Playing at the NME awards has to be the biggest thing for me. I got nominated for best British newcomer, It was a tough category so I wasn't surprised not to win, it was still a huge honour just to be nominated.

Who would you love to work with?
Noel Gallagher, he's my idol. I grew up listening to oasis, so it would be a dream come true.

How do you write a perfect song?
I don't know how to write one, I think you just know after you write it. Whenever your writing a song you're always looking for perfection, but feel you never quite reach its like finding a missing piece in a puzzle. Sometimes I write about what's happening around me or something that's happened to me, I like telling a story with my songs.

Can you remember what you're first time on stage was like?
Yeah I remember it like it was yesterday, my first ever gig on a proper stage was probably at school which is one of the scariest gigs you can do, I was so nervous, I was performing in front of the people I would see everyday and if they didn't think I was any good they wouldn't let me forget. But luckily for me it went good and everyone was supportive. It made me think if I could do that I could do nearly anything.

Do you ever get nervous or stage fright?
Yeah, I always feel nervous before a gig no matter the size and always scared of messing up, but once you're on stage and performing you forget and the nerves go away.

How did you get where you are now?
I played wherever I could. At one point I was living out the back of my car, I was constantly traveling. I was lucky I guess, I was playing at a small gig one night and a man come up to me and asked if I needed a manager, and that's how it started he got me more gigs and then the recording contract.

Who's your biggest inspiration?
My grandad. He's the one who encouraged me to carry on whenever I was down. He's the best.

This time next year, where do you hope to be?
I'm on the road this year so hopefully next year I can get back in the studio.

Have you always wanted to be a musician? If not what was you're dream job as a child?
No not till I was about twelve that's when I started playing the guitar, my grandad taught me and he was the one who encourage me to take up singing. I wanted to be a pilot when I was little.

When does the new album come out and is there going to be any guest stars?
31st of January, and no just my songs, maybe next time.

Where did the the name OMT come from?
Well when I was first starting out me and my mates were trying to think of what I could call myself, and we came up with OMT which stands for 'Our Mate Tom'.
